About the programme:

The workshop on Designing of Outcomes-based training is intended for participants who need to function as ETDP’s (Education, Training and Development Practitioners) within the framework set by SAQA. Participants who will benefit are trainers and training managers. This workshop will allow for participants to develop training material according to outcomes-based methodology as such will ensure learning will be transferred to the workplace.

The workshop outcome:

Each learner must be able to conduct a needs analysis within the organisation using various data collection methods, analyse the data and develop training programmes of various types, to meet the required outcomes. Learners must also understand the importance of utilising all available resources as well as record keeping.

Specific outcomes of the workshop content:

Participants will achieve the workshop outcome by being able to:

  1. Describe the basic principles of training and adult learning
  2. Explain the importance of effective investigation methods
  3. Explain the importance of structuring training material to suit the needs of the learners
  4. Describe situations where training materials are adapted and explain why
  5. Explain the importance of learning outcomes
  6. Explain the importance of identifying the necessary job skills
  7. State the reasons for keeping all training records up to date
  8. Given a range of investigation methods, collect information on training needs correctly
  9. Interpret the information using appropriate methods of analysis
  10. Forward reports and recommendations resulting from the analysis to the appropriate people
  11. Confirm conclusions reached about the need for training sessions with the appropriate personnel
  12. Identify, develop and use competencies and their relevant standards
  13. Compare individual competencies with competencies required for the job role or function
  14. Identify training outcomes in consultation with relevant parties
  15. Given a range of barriers, make a decision and give reasons
  16. Identify performance and knowledge requirements in the specific outcomes
  17. Select training methods appropriate for the training outcomes, training venue and the learners
  18. Design and develop the training programme
  19. Identify and develop appropriate learning materials to meet learning needs
  20. Give learners the opportunity to manage their own learning
  21. Clarify the evidence of learning and explain how it will be collected
  22. Identify and confirm training costs with the oppropriate personnel
  23. Select an appropriate training venue and arrange the required equipment, tools and other resources
  24. Make arrangements with any other people who are required to assist in the training programme
  25. Maintain a resource list of external and internal training people
  26. Check and ensure that training materials, training records and training information are accessible
  27. Maintain an up to date register of external courses and providers
  28. Learners must be able to produce training programmes and materials

Training methodology:

The methodology is based on interactive learning, i.e. learners will learn by doing. Furthermore learners will use examples from their own organisations, thus ensuring that the learning is anchored at their workplace. As with all DCT training programmes, we strive to effect actual change back at the workplace through effective and practical outcomes based training.
